How to Submit Homework
It is critical that you follow these steps when submitting homework. If you do not, your assignment will probably receive a 0 and your resubmission will receive a late penalty. Why all the fuss? Because we actually use a computer program (affectionately named "The Terminator") to grade your homework, and the program is currently very specific. So let's not anger the Terminator -- pay attention to these instructions!
Here are the step-by-step instructions for submitting your homework correctly.
- Using the Windows explorer (the thing you use to find files and folders), find the folder called "src" located inside the particular homework assignment you wish to submit. For example, double-click your "csci261" folder, then "apps", then "homework", then "01_helloWorld." (or "02_sphereVolume", etc, depending on which homework you intend to submit).
STOP. are you sure you're viewing the right homework assignment? - Notice the folder called "src."
- Right-click the src folder and select "Send to..." and then "Compressed (zipped) folder."
- Notice the file src.zip that has been created. (If you do not see the .zip part, then you didn't set up your environment correctly. Do so.)
- Append the number of the homework assignment to the filename src.zip. For example, for homework 01_helloWorld you should rename the file to src01.zip.
STOP. Are you sure you're renaming the right file, and renaming the file correctly? - Now, visit blackboard for this class and click the blue "Content" button in the sidebar.
- Find the relevant assignment and click on it.
- Find the little area labeled "Attach file" and click the "Browse My Computer" button.
- Find the src##.zip file for the particular homework assignment and click "Open."
STOP. Are you sure you're selecting the right homework assignment? Are you double-sure? - WAIT! There's one last, super-important step. Click on the blue "Submit" button to submit your homework.
- NO, REALLY! Make sure you click the blue "Submit" button. It's so easy to forget, we're mentioning it twice.
Remember to be sure you are attaching the right src##.zip file and remember to hit that blue "submit" button. Not doing so is like bringing your homework to class but forgetting to hand it in. No concessions will be made for incorrectly submitted work. If you incorrectly submit your homework and re-submit after the due date, the late policy and deductions will be applied. Bummer!
Here's a video that demonstrates the steps above.
