Applications of Non-Negative Matrix Factorization & Support Vector Machines

The goal of this assignment is to educate us about modern applications of NMF and SVM algorithms.

NMF

• Read chapter 10 of Collective Intelligence.
• Read the original paper by Lee and Seung.
• Conduct your own online research, gathering links and examples from the Internet and other texts.
• Share your findings and discuss them via the listserv.

SVM

• Read chapter 9 of Collective Intelligence.
• Read DM 5.5.
• Conduct your own research, gathering resources (online or otherwise) demonstrating the application of SVMs.
• Share your findings and discuss them via the listserv.

This is a very informal 'research' project and the whole point is for us to discuss the application of these algorithms together in a collaborative fashion (do I sound lonely?).

You should have this complete by Wednesday, December 9.

Grading Criteria

Everyone is required to provide at least one meaningful reference for each algorithm, and must actively participate in our online discussion.
